Step into the world of rare books handpicked by our Sales Director, Jeffrey Kerr. From the vibrant allure of Broadway's 'Cabaret' to the Art Deco elegance of vintage mixology in 'The Savoy Cocktail Book', each rare item holds tales of late nights, wild parties, and personal literary experiences.
Gift Guide 03
1. Joe MASTEROFF; John KANDER (music); Fred EBB (lyrics). Cabaret. New York, 1967. £1,500

A presentation copy of the book of the musical. Adapted from Christopher Isherwood’s novel ‘Goodbye to Berlin’. This was my degree show and brings back fond memories of late nights and wild parties.

2. Harry CRADDOCK. The Savoy Cocktail Book.  Edinburgh, 1797-1803. (SOLD)

Such a stunning example of Art Deco book design.  I have my grandfather’s copy and like to guess at some of the concoctions he tried out in the 1930s.

3. Nancy MITFORD (editor); Osbert LANCASTER (illustrator). Noblesse Oblige. London, 1956. £1,750

This copy of the first edition of Nancy Mitford’s ‘great tease’ has been inscribed by her great friend, and fellow contributor, Evelyn Waugh.

4. Alexander CALDER; Jacques PRÉVERT. Fêtes. Paris, 1971. £12,500

One of only 150 copies signed by Alexander Calder whose seven brilliantly coloured aquatints appear in the book.

5. Robert INDIANA. The American Dream. New York, 1934. £22,500

As well as 24 prints bound into the book there are six loose prints, including ‘LOVE’ which can be removed from the book.

6. Dylan THOMAS. Under Milk Wood. London, 1954. £625

Whenever I see a copy of Dylan Thomas’s play for voices I remember the first time I heard a production with Richard Burton’s lyrical Welsh tones.
