Holy Cats by Andy Warhol's Mother.
New York, Privately printed by the artist,
1954
Andy Warhol's mother, Julia Warhola was an artist in her own right and provided the calligraphy to hundreds of her son's album covers, advertisements and book illustrations. In Holy Cats, however, she takes centre stage, providing not only her delicate penmanship but also her charming drawings of cats and angels. Warhola was born in a Ruthenian village at the end of the 19th century and it is clear her style was influenced by the traditional folk art she grew up with.
First edition, 8vo (23 x 14.5 cm); 20 lithographs on various coloured wove papers, printed recto only, with 'The Estate of Andy Warhol' and 'Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts' stamps to lower pastedown, numbered in pencil 'PM 21.0048'; original lithographed paper covered boards, very minor staining to cover otherwise a fine copy.
