Soon To Be A Major Motion Picture.
New York, Grosset & Dunlap, Inc., 1980
A marvellous association copy of a memoir from this counterculture figure who was part of the 'Chicago Eight', with an introduction by Norman Mailer. This copy was owned by the literary and cultural critic John Leonard, who has marked the book up and creased the top corner of more than half the pages. Leonard used the book to write his 1 September 1980 review for the New York Times.
Hoffman has signed and inscribed the book on the front free endpaper to Leonard, with his fingerprint added in ink: 'John could you do me a favour? Pan this book in Playboy so I can have a bestseller tooo [sic]. Abbie* this is #3 of a limited fingerprinted edition: Keep 7 years and use for mulch around tomato plants.'
First edition, first printing, inscribed by the author; 8vo; press photograph laid in, book marked up in pencil by John Leonard, top corner creased throughout, light toning to leaves; publisher's dark blue cloth, silver lettering to spine, spine ends slightly bumped, with the unclipped pictorial dust-jacket, spine ends and extremities slightly creased, light toning to rear panel, else very good in near-fine dust-jacket.
