Rare early edition with coloured frontispiece. This is one of the earlier Baedekers with the attractive coloured panoramas and the engraved views.
'Schweiz' was almost the longest series in German with thirty-nine editions from 1844 to 1937. This copy lacks the supplement for 1860 which is usual.
Eighth edition; pp xxlviii, 390, lacks the supplement for 1860, coloured frontispiece, 7 maps and 9 plans. some folding, 2 coloured panoramas, 16 engraved illustrations throughout, some slight browning of pages; skilfully rebacked with original boards and spine in publisher's red cloth gilt; a very good copy.
