Through the Woods exemplifies Bates' love of he countryside. It was his collaboration with the Scottish artist, Agnes Miller Parker, whose beautiful wood-engravings of the natural world adorn the book, that made it so successful.
First edition, first printing, 4to., inscribed presentation copy from Bates, 142 pp., 73 wood-engravings by Agnes Miller Parker, original cloth, dust-jacket, most of wraparound band with puff by George Bernard Shaw, light wear to spine extremities, a very good copy.
