One of 175 numbered copies on vélin, from a total edition of 200. A short prose piece, informed by surrealist automatic writing, about a young boy who is 'a life-size portrait of a child of good family born around 1900,' who pursues extraordinary adventures throughout Europe. The frontispiece is by Wolfgang Paalen, the then husband of Alice Paalen Rahon, with whom Penrose was extremely close.
First edition, inscribed by the author to André Breton, number 61 of 175 copies on vélin, from a total edition of 200; frontispiece by Wolfgang Paalen, internally fine; original black wrappers, yellow title label pasted on front cover; a fine copy, housed in custom black and pink folding box by Julie Nadot (unsigned).
