A rare edition published just after the Crimean War had taken place in 1854 and Alexander II, the Emancipator was on the throne. Passport rules and regulations had now been relaxed and with the introduction of the railways travellers could now journey to St.Petersburg in "three and a half to four days".
Endpapers dated "August 1874".
Second edition. pp x, 400, 88 adverts dated 1874 at rear, 5 maps and plans including one folding map, some spotting throughout, hotel advert tipped in before half title; publisher's red cloth gilt, split in parts, overall a good copy.
