The text offers a thorough history of the region beginning with the British Persian Gulf Campaign of 1819, the conflict which resulted in the signing of the General Maritime Treaty of 1820 whereby the British recognised the area as the 'Trucial Coast'. This geographical region then became the United Arab Emirates as it is known today and the present text includes numerous maps, plates and illustrations taken from a wide range of primary sources of both British and Arab military accounts.
