Issued to accompany a 1995 exhibition at Portikus, Frankfurt am Main, this publication is devoted to Andreas Gursky's monumental 1993 photograph of the Immeuble d'habitation Maine-Montparnasse II, a quarter-mile-long housing block in Montparnasse, Paris. This modernist landmark was designed by Jean Dubuisson in 1959 and completed in 1964.
First edition; 2 vols., 4to (240 x 265 mm, 9½ x 10½ in); colour photographs, essay by Hans Irrek, interviews by Irrek and Ursula Trübenbach, black-and-white illustrations in text; perfect-bound wrappers printed in silver and black, 'Paris, Montparnasse' lithograph (262 x 476 mm, 10¼ x 18 ¾ in) in the lightly rubbed original silver and black card folder, the print and books housed together in the publisher's silver and black card box, light wear and rubbing, fine in an excellent box; 32; 40pp.
