Doorly was a junior officer on board the Morning, a relief ship used on Scott's Discovery expedition. It was the ship which took a disgruntled Shackleton back to England. This book was a prize from H. M. S. Worcester, a training vessel on which Doorly, along with Commander Evans, trained.
