Colour photographic portrait of Lyndon B. Johnson, 36th POTUS, in characteristic pose.
Harold Wilson & Lyndon B. Johnson had initially enjoyed a positive relationship during Wilson's first tenure as Prime Minister but the Anglo-American 'special relationship' had been strained to quite some degree by Wilson's refusal to assist America in the Vietnam War. This was largely due to a political lack of will amongst the Labour Party and the British people but also born from the economic difficulties Britain was facing for having maintained a military presence East of Suez.
Inscribed & signed by President Johnson, 'To The Right Honorable Harold Wilson, O.B.E., M.P. Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, with warmest personal regards and best wishes, Lyndon B. Johnson [signed]'. Presented in silver frame bearing the Seal of the President of the United States, stamped 'Sterling Hand Made', 270 x 210 mm.
