Signed. It was his wife, Joan, who finally pushed James Herriot to pursue his dream of being an author.Despite an abundance of enthusiasm, his initial attempts at writing were met with rejection and often revolved around football. It wasn't until he turned his eye towards what he knew best, animals, that Herriot began to experience success. The rest is T.V. and Cinematic legend.

First edition, first impression, inscribed on the title-page; 'To James with best wishes James Herriot'; 8vo (225 x 145 mm); publisher's blue cloth lettered in silver, pictorial dust-jacket, very light age-toning, slight rubbing to extremities, otherwise a near-fine copy
