Edition of 150 copies. In de Krant is Hans Eijkelboom's second book and his most sought-after. For this performative conceptual work, he attempted to appear in the background of a newspaper photograph on 10 consecutive days, at least once daily. He accomplished this by studying the newspaper agendas for the forthcoming week and listening to police radio to learn of other potentially newsworthy events.
In In de Krant, he succeeded in appearing in the newspaper on no less than seventeen occasions, though not on 10 consecutive days.
Hans Eijkelboom's work is concerned with the way in which society presents itself in everyday appearance and how that appearance is stipulated by factors such as personality and social position. He documents these sociological enquiries by creating photographic typologies of faces, housing and clothing. Also of interest to him is the mediating role photography plays in the relationship between dress, external appearance, and personality, as well as in the role of photography as a means to create evidence.

First edition of 150 copies; (290 x 208 mm, 11½ x 8¼ in); black and-white reproductions of details from newspaper pages, printed on newsprint by Drukkerij van den Dool, Sliedrecht, lightly toned; light brown adhesive-bound wrappers printed in black, light toning to edges and upper side, a very good copy; [38]pp.

The Photobook: A History III, p288; Dutch photo publications 1918-1980, p518.
