Historical work on the life of Galileo Galilei by Margarita Vladimirovna Rokotovna (1872 - 1959) a popular Soviet children's author. She published over 200 works under the pseudonym Al or Alexandra Altaev and started her literary career writing for Bolshevik newspapers during the 1917 revolution. After leaving her forester husband who burnt her stories she supported herself and her daughter by forging documents and writing biographies of notable figures that were accessible to children.

Lifetime edition; 4to (19.4 x 15 cm); with 13 illustrations including frontispiece of Galileo Galilei, marbled edges; green cloth with pictorial and gilt detail to cover, marbled edges; a fine copy.
