The British Israelite movement was established in late 19th-century by Edward Hine, Edward Wheler Bird, and Herbert Aldersmith. They believed that people of Western Europe descent, particularly those in Great Britain, are direct lineal descendants of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel and that the British Royal Family is directly descended from the line of King David. The movement had many supporters and powerful patrons, including Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone. The first Anglo-Israel Almanack was published in 1880.
