First edition of the first Mr. Tootleoo book. Bernard Darwin (1876-1961) was the grandson of the naturalist Charles Darwin. He collaborated with his wife on their children's books, with Bernard providing the text, and Elinor the illustrations.

First edition, first impression; oblong 4to; 22 full-page colour plates by Elinor Darwin, light toning to leaves, very occasional creasing; original brown pictorial boards printed in red, red blindstamped roundel to front cover, light wear to spine ends, corners slightly rubbed, some marks to boards, otherwise a very good copy.
