The son of an East India Company officer, Sir Vincent Barrington Kennett was involved in the St John's Ambulance, and the Red Cross, performing humanitarian work in the Serbo-Turkish War (1876–77), and the Turko-Russian War (1877–78), and other conflicts.
First edition; 2 vols, 8vo (19.5 x 12.5 cm); folding map, 3 engraved plates including hand-coloured frontispiece; prize binding, full dark green polished calf, gilt spine in six compartments, gilt morocco lettering pieces, all edges marbled, light wear, a very good set; xvi, 344; viii, 367 pp.
