Marrakech.

In 1989, Moriyama spent some time in a rented apartment in Paris when a Tokyo gallery owner suggested he travel to Morocco. Marrakech comprises two books bound one above the other; this allows the viewer to assemble different combinations of images as the pages are turned.
In a short text Moriyama writes: 'Elias Canetti's brilliant Die Stimmen von Marrakesch is a book I like and one that I find myself casually re-reading once every few years. Each time I do, I will the memories from a faraway past of the short, week trip I took to Marrakesch, already a quarter of a century ago to come back. The nostalgic scenes of the many sounds, aromas, and crowded streets vividly return to my closed eyes.'
Marrakech was shortlisted for the 2014 Paris Photo—Aperture Foundation Photobook of the Year Award.
