A handsome turn-of-the-century copy of a collection of poems by one of the great poets of her day. Elizabeth Barrett Browning was widely celebrated and successful in her time, heavily influencing the likes of Edgar Allen Poe and Emily Dickinson, but faded behind her husband's shadow until a revval in her work in the 1970s and 80s. She is now acknowledged as one the finest Romantic poets, her sonnet 'How Do I Love Thee' rivalling any of her male counterparts, and lauded for her advocacy of the abolition of both slavery and child labour.

New edition; 2 vols in 1, 8vo (18 x 12.5 cm); near-contemporary half calf by John Bumpus with discreet binders stamp, marbled boards and endpapers, gilt art-deco vine and flower motif to spine in six compartments, top edge gilt, extremities a touch rubbed, marbled paper a little spotted, otherwise a fine copy; ix, 267; viii, 262pp.
