The first edition of Gertrude Jekyll's (1843-1932) important work on flower garden arrangement, which popularised the idea of warm and cold colour schemes.

Her younger brother, Walter Jekyll was a friend of Robert Louis Stevenson, who borrowed his surnamed for the eponymous character in his Gothic novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

First edition, first impression; 8vo (23.5 x 15 cm); photographic plates; publisher's blue cloth, lettered in gilt to upper cover and spine, spine faded, slightly rubbed.
