This artists' book is divided into eight chapters: Gordons Gin, Dark Shadow, Broken Hearts, Bloody Life, Balls Bar, Bad Thoughts, Inca Pisco, and Human Bondage, each featuring photographs in different styles opposite pages of text. It opens with the following introduction:
'To the reader of Dark Shadow from the sculptors. This sculpture is a result of our past three years of earnest daily thoughts, shadows, deeds, cares and pleasures. We have turned them into ink and arranged them as words and pictures to form this living sculpture book. We hope that you have a nice time going through it. Yours sincerely George and Gilbert the sculptors.'
First edition, number 1925 of 2000 signed copies, this copy additionally inscribed in blue ink on the front free endpaper; 8vo (188 x 125 mm, 7½ x 5 in); black-and-white photographs and text; plain endpapers, marbled red and black cloth-covered boards, spine and sides titled in gilt, minor cockling to cloth as often, spine leaning slightly, near-fine; [288]pp.
