First edition, containing 96 tipped-in photographs of 1930s ballet luminaries. Gordon Anthony was a British photographer known for his extensive work on ballet and theatre. His sister, Dame Ninette de Valois joined the Ballets Russes in 1923 where she was promoted to a soloist and acted as mentor to Alicia Markova.

First edition; 4to; 96 tipped-in photographs minor spotting to text leaves and endpapers, contemporary ownership inscription in pencil to upper flyleaf, else unmarked internally; publisher's red cloth, cream cloth spine lettered in gilt, cloth slightly marked, edges slightly sunned, else very good.
