Manuscript dedication to the artist Sir Gerald Kelly (1879-1972): 'Some of these stories are failures completely. Kelly painted Walpole between 1924 and 1925, and the British Library holds a first edition of Walpole's The Dark Forest, also with a lengthy manuscript dedication to the artist on the fly-leaf (https://blogs.bl.uk/european/2018/03/konstantin-somov-and-hugh-walpole-in-russia.html?msclkid=bb662a96c31811eca40f0a5ff9a3297c).

First edition, presentation copy to Sir Gerald Kelly, 8vo (192 x 137 mm, 7½ x 5½ in), 24pp publisher's advertisements bound in at end, a few leaves slightly stained at margins; publisher's green cloth, top edge slightly dust-soiled, spine slightly discoloured, extremities slightly rubbed, good overall.
