A handsome set with 44 hand-coloured aquatints of the Netherlands and France, with three more plates than the first edition.
Both the Abbey and British Museum copies are uncoloured. Samuel Ireland would go on to author and illustrate six other works in the same vein, all providing views of parts of England, which were overshadowed by his involvement in the Ireland Shakespeare forgeries.
Second edition, with additions; 2 vols, 4to (23 x 16 cm); 48 plates of which 46 are aquatints and 44 hand-coloured, with extra engraved titles containing 2 hand-coloured vignettes, in-text wood cuts, some very light occasional offsetting; fine 20th-century full green crushed morocco by the Hampstead Bindery, spine lettered in gilt in six compartments, turn-ins ruled in gilt, all edges gilt, discreet booksellers tickets to front free endpapers; xx, 217; iv, 211pp.
