Limited edition number 4 of 350 copies. An excellent set of Froissart's Chronicles in the English translation by Sir John Bourchier, illustrated with over 600 hand-coloured coats of arms and 6 maps.

One of the three great works printed between 1927 and 1930 for which the Shakespeare Head Press is remembered. Morris had planned an edition for the Kelmscott Press, but only the double-page opening and a few specimens were ever produced. Under Blackwell and Mott the Shakespeare Head 'became the most mature and sophisticated of the private presses, producing some works in the grand manner, which are a great pleasure to read an examine now. The books were designed by Newdigate, for the press in Stratford. Nothing was farmed out' (Franklin & Turner).

A stunningly presented and very readable edition of Chaucer's works, painstakingly reproduced to highest standards by the Shakespeare Head Press; this copy in excellent condition.

Limited edition, number 4 of 350 copies, of which only 320 are for sale; 8 vols (25 x 18 cm); 6 maps, over 600 hand-coloured coats of arms, bookplate to front pastedowns, additional paper-labels tipped into rear of each vol.; publisher's holland-backed blue paper boards, paper labels, top-edges unopened, others uncut, spines slightly discoloured, corners slightly rubbed, internally clean.

Franklin & Turner p.354.
