This was the first detailed edition on Greece (previous editions were included Asia Minor, Turkey and the East). This edition was published at the time of constant armed conflicts between Greece and Turkey on their borders.
Endpapers dated "June 1853."
Third edition.pp. xi, 460, 48 adverts at rear dated 1860, folding map of Greece at rear, (large 10 cm tear to edge of map no loss of image), plan of Athens, plan of Crete, previous owner's manuscript notes on preliminary pages; recently rebound with brown cloth preserving original upper board; a good solid copy.
