The first edition of this classic introductory guide to drawing by the leading Victorian art critic and exponent of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, John Ruskin (1819-1900).

Ruskin's 'opposition to the mechanical methodology of the government schools led him to found his own school of drawing at Oxford when he began to lecture as the first Slade professor in 1870' (ODNB).
