Sir William Lloyd, a Welsh country gentleman, who had been a major in the Hon. East India Company's Bengal infantry and an Indian surveyor, brought out this book, under the editorship of his son, George Lloyd. This collective travel narrative describes the exploration of several Himalayan passes in 1822. Lloyd's narrative focuses on the ascent of the Boorendo Pass. J. G. Gerard's account examines the determination of the permanent snow line in the Himalayas, while his brother, Alexander investigated the availability and possible passage of a series of Himalayan passes. Lloyd's passage through Simla was one of the earliest by an Englishman.
