The scarce first monograph of Russian avant-garde artist Pavel Filonov.
This illustrated catalogue, with text from Sergei Isakov includes a catalogue raisonné of 241 of the artist's works. It was published to coincide with the grand retrospective of the artist due to be held at the Russian Museum in 1929. The authorities forbade the exhibition from ever taking place and his artworks did not appear in the museum again until 1988.

First edition, small 8vo (18 x 13.5 cm); 41, [2] pp., 15 illustrations after Filonov in black and white, of which three are full-page, text by Sergei Isakov; original illustrated card wrappers, minor staining and wear to cover, an excellent copy.
