This book and the award-winning film version starring John Hurt made a celebrity of the flamboyant Crisp, a fame he exploited brilliantly with a series of touring monologues, chat show appearances and other writings, adopting a transatlantic lifestyle and even presenting an alternative 'Queen's Speech' for Channel 4 (1993).
First edition, first impression, inscribed by the author; 8vo; light marginal toning, else unmarked internally; publisher's purple cloth, silver lettering to spine, with the unclipped dust-jacket featuring photographic portraits of the author, slightly toned, else very good.
