Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone.
Stock Code 114953
London, Bloomsbury, 1997
One of just 5,150 paperback copies of the first impression, published on the same day as the incredibly rare hardback.
In this first book in the series of seven, it follows Harry as his life quickly and radically shifts from that of an 'ordinary boy' with the Dursleys to the enchanting, exhilarating world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry uncovers the secrets of his past, makes friends that will steer the direction of his future, and confronts the dark legacy of those who preceded him. The iconic covers, designed by Thomas Taylor and depicting the young Harry Potter with the Hogwarts Express on Platform 9 3⁄4, are arguably the most recognisable of any book of the last 50 years.
Octavo. (Light browning as usual). Publisher's pictorial stiff wrappers (some creasing, light wear to edges, small area of laminate lifting at fore-edge of upper cover).
First edition, first impression, paperback issue, with '1 wand' repeated on page 53; 8vo; some age-toning to text block (as usual), else fine; publisher's pictorial wrappers by Cliff Wright, Wendy Cooling's review to the lower front cover, and 'philospher's' misspelling to back cover, slight rubbing to edges, more so bottom ones, a mild creases to upper corner of front cover, otherwise a very good to near-fine copy preserved in a custom-made, red cloth solander box, the upper cover pictorially gilt-blocked after the original cover design.
