Stewart (1753-1828), was a Scottish philosopher and mathematician. Today regarded as one of the most important figures of the later Scottish Enlightenment, he was renowned as a populariser of the work of Adam Smith.
First edition; 4to; 3 engraved portraits, some offset staining to portraits and facing leaf, contemporary russia, covers ruled in gilt and blind, spine in six compartments, gilt lettered direct to second, others with large gilt block, raised bands with double gilt fillets, marbled edges, a very good copy; 532 pp.
