Stock Code 106021
Moscow, Tvorchestovo, 1923
Konchalovsky was known as the 'Russian Cézanne' and although strongly influenced by the French artist, forged his own distinct style. Indeed, European critics thought that his paintings were decidedly 'slavic'. From 1909 he began to exhibit his works with Mir Iskutssvta [World of Art] and was a founding member of the Jack of Diamonds group, whose members included the most famous Avant-Garde and Cubist artists of the time.
First edition, one of 999 numbered copies, 4to (30 x 34 cm); 87pp., illustrated with 8 colour plates tipped in after Konchalovsky and numerous black and white illustrations throughout the text; original printed wrappers with typography and illustration by Sergey Chekhonin, slight staining to spine, yapp edges worn but other wise a very fresh copy.
